Regulating the way we live together in a constitutional state
Democracy needs regulation - whether it be elections or alien law
The State Ministry of the Interior drafts
legislation
in essential areas of state law. This includes amendments to the Bavarian Constitution and ranges from elections, games of chance, and legal holidays down to press legislation and data protection. When federal laws are drafted on important domestic matters, the Ministry also participates, as in the case of citizenship rights, and the law on aliens and the right of asylum.

In the interest of all citizens, we also perform major executive tasks like
organizing elections
and referendums. The Ministry makes sure, for example, that policies affecting citizenship and aliens, or those designed to protect citizens with respect to gaming, are consistently observed statewide and that personal rights are protected during data processing.
One main focus of the Ministry of the Interior's activities is policy regarding aliens, and in particular, collaboration on concepts that will improve the integration of long-term resident aliens living in our state. Our efforts to establish socially acceptable limits on immigration levels, which are still too high, as well as the repatriation of aliens whose visas have expired, will help, now and in future, to preserve Bavaria's position as a cosmopolitan state that is always ready to help in genuine emergencies.
